Sony plan in-game advertising expansion
All about Home?
Sony could have their sights set on greater revenue via in-game advertising, after announcing a new partnership with research specialists Nielson, who will monitor gamers habits and gauge the effectiveness of in-game advertising.
The deal with Nielson was inked by Sony Computer Entertainment America, and the research could allow Sony to make in-game advertising more effective and more appealing to advertisers. Data will be compiled using Nielson's National People Meter, a list of 12,000 households that the agency uses to compile television statistics, too.
Nielson will gain access to PlayStation Network traffic information, as well as PS3 and Home details, as the agency looks to calculate reach, frequency and effectiveness. Indeed, with Sony not planning to charge a subscription fee for the upcoming Home service it is perhaps in this area that Nielson's activities will focus - as Sony work out how to best exploit what they hope will be an enourmous persistent world community.
More on Sony's alternative business models soon.
