Iwata dismisses Wii price cut chatter

'Why on earth would we?'

Despite widely publicised price cuts and re-alignments from both Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo have barely batted an eyelash in the face of their Wii console's ever determined rivals. This fact is amply demonstrated as the company laughs off price-cut conjecture. Why would the Wii console need a price-cut when it is still out-selling its rivals, despite their efforts with new bundles, prices, et al?

"We're still focusing on how to meet booming demand," Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told the Associated Press. "We're absolutely not considering a price cut."

"We barely have enough Wiis to meet global demand this year. But next year, we can bring the Wii to China," Iwata-san added.

Sony America exec George Harrison echoed such sentiments, telling US gamers: "We'll stay at 249 USD for the foreseeable future. We are still selling everything we can make."

More from Kyoto's most famous gaming son, soon.
