Super Smash Bros. Brawl has officially become the fastest selling Nintendo game in the firm's history; that's the word on the web this morning.

The game was released on March 9th stateside with over 874,000 copies shifted on day one. As of Sunday, the firm had sold an incredible 1.4 million copies of the game. That's 120 copies every minute since launch, we're reliably told.

"Super Smash Bros. Brawl has made the leap from videogame to cultural phenomenon," offered Nintendo of America chief Cammie Dunaway.

"Game reviewers and the public alike praise its fun gameplay and extensive, inventive content."

Super Smash Bros. Melee is the best-selling GameCube title ever, although this new release has suffered a few teething troubles. Some 'dirty' Wii's struggle to play the double density discs, while issues persist with online play, too.

"As with the launch of any online-enabled game, especially one as popular as Super Smash Bros. Brawl, everyone wants to play at once," Nintendo respond. "This puts a strain on the pipeline."
