Livingstone: Gaming "one notch up from pornography"

Not the mainstream medium it wants to be... yet

Chatting to the Guardian about mainstream perceptions of videogaming, both as a medium and as an industry, Eidos Interactive creative director Ian Livingstone has said that gaming is still not viewed as a legitimate pass-time, in fact, the industry is merely "one notch up from pornography."

"We’re still seen as the red-headed stepchild of the creative industries, one notch up from pornography in the eyes of most of the establishment," he admitted.

"They forget that half of the world and half of the UK’s population play games. Games help define who we are as human beings - they are as important, culturally and socially, as music and films."

Is Livingstone right?
