PS3 sales slide in Japan

FFXIII demo loses shine

Sales of the PlayStation 3 console have slid back down to more realistic levels in Japan, following a week in which sales of the console rocketed as Square Enix released a Final Fantasy XIII demo on the format.

Still, for the week ending April 26th it appears to be a return to form for the most part, the PSP leading with sales of over 41,000 units, the DSi second with over 37,000 sales.

Third is the PS3, this week managing over 23,000 sales, followed by the Wii, still under-performing with over 18,000 for the week.

The Xbox 360 topped 7,000 (just), with the DS Lite marginally off with just over 6,000 sales.

Last is the PS2 with 4,500 - or thereabouts.

What exactly is a realistic level? I suppose you could refer to the overall trend of the wii originally outselling the ps3 by 6:1. Or just maybe the PS3 is finally getting the attention it deserves.

I dunno, Everywhere you look. there are a lot of people moaning about the PS3. Perhaps thats because of Sony's bullishness because of prior successes. Whichever way you look at it, the PS3 is not down and out for the count.

I'm not a PS3 fanboy, but I am a PS3 fan. I like the games that are available for all three consoles, but my personal preference lies with Sony. Hey, but thats just me.

I'm not really in check with hurling bricks at other consoles, but I do think there's a lot of 'bad-mouthing' specificaly at Sony and the PS3.

For me, I think that the PS3 is finally turning a corner. With a solid games lineup for 09 and PSN and home constantly being improved, I think as a PS3 owner, things are looking up.

Price drop? I think you simply need to look at exactly what you get when you invest in a PS3. And yes, you should consider it an investment.

Anyway, whichever console you own, enjoy it. Use it, but most of all have fun.

ha ha "slides", a week ago it was "rocket".

certainly a pretty negative headline, methinks for the dramatic effect...that's why i looked, i won't be back on this website looking again. shoddy, lazy journalism.

A sales spike is good for moral or a few spurious articles in the press but trends are important. The most interesting one here is the Wii and how it seems to have lost its sales shine. Has the novelty finally worn off? Potentially yes.

However, just to comment on Sony in general. You've dropped the ball. Your asian arrogance won't allow you to admit anything else (no this isn't racist but more a cultural difference in the blind arrogant (and ignorant) attitude of companies like Sony). Your domination (globally) of the last generation of consoles was stunning. I've bought a PS1, PS2 and now PS3 (although the latter was far later into its life due to your astronomical prices). Don't get me wrong, it has a blu-ray player but UK prices hurt too much for me to purchase on launch. I'm no Sony fanboy but like them as a company. However, please, for the love of all that is holy, sit-up and pay attention to your customers. Pay attention to your mistakes and learn from them. You spent so long banging on about the Cell and Blu-ray (pre launch) that research and development time crippled you both in time and money.

Even now, 360 games and PS3 games look very similar in performance.

Don't ever forget... it's ALL about the games. The PS2 showed us that with the weakest hardware out of the three and truly awesome sales in all regions.
