UMD still in Sony's plans
Disc-based releases still important
The PSP Go may be dispensing with the UMD physical media format - in favour of digital releases - but the PSP 3000 will continue to be sold alongside the revised Sony handheld.
But why? Well, according to new SCEE chief Andrew House there is still much demand for physical media releases, GI.biz were told.
"The decision to push [PSP Go] alongside PSP 3000 is absolutely the right one because there's still a very large, untapped market there for a traditional, package media-based portable gaming," he explained.
"This allows us to extend into other areas. The beauty is that we can respond to consumer's tastes and balance the two platforms against each other.
"There's a price point difference between them and we'll monitor that as we go along."
