Criterion plot major new Need for Speed
Burnout team taking charge
As has been rumoured for some months, EA big wig John Riccitiello has today finally confirmed that a new Need for Speed title is in the works - at Burnout masterminds Criterion.
The same development team behind Burnout are working on the age-old racing series for the time being, with Alex Ward heading up the project which aims to breath new life into the IP.
"Alex is one of the people in the industry I would analogize to the great filmmakers etc. He is a true creative visionary," Kotaku were told.
"We had a great fight about what the next Need For Speed would be like. Of course, he gets to win because it's his call. It's not that I'm without an opinion on it."
While Criterion are helping out, the exec plays down the prospects of the two series' merging, stating that both games are hugely different - although a new Burnout remains a distant prospect.

NFS GAMERS praying seriously its not like carbon, pro streets, undercover or shift. PLEASE!!!! BE A RE-MAKE OF HOTPURSUIT, porsche unleased, high stakes in GODS name have COPS!!!!!!!
I seriously hope CRITERION is paying attend to sells of undercover and this sept. when SHIFT comes out an fail. NFS is not a simulator game!!!! never have!!!! it should never be a simulator!!! thats what GRID,FORZA AND GRAN TURISMO is for. need for speed is a fantasy race game to do 200+ escaping cops making them crash into on coming traffic.
now if criterion maker of burnout going to make nfs I hope like hell they add some parts of burnout like jumping over a ramp. but not all that crashing crap like burnout do. they need to stick with the formula that made nfs need for speed. any nfs with cops is SICK!!!!
just one nfs with cops, helicoptor with rocket launcher. if criterion go in that direction Im sure sales would beat forza 3
