Consumer interest questioned; UMD move jars

Word on the grapevine this morning has it that some UK retailers might opt not to stock the PSP Go, stores concerned by the new handheld's digital-only business model, which will see retailers miss out on valuable UMD sales.

Indie retail chains Chips and Grainger Games have both said they will consider not stocking the handheld; both retailers stating that they have low expectations of the device - no pre-orders having been received.

"Right now I can't see any justification for stocking it," Chips MD Don McCabe told Edge magazine.

McCabe says that early adopters are usually on the phone pre-ordering within minutes of an announcement, but this buzz has been so far missing with regard to the PSP Go.

Chips may opt to stock the device if pre-orders increase. We'll monitor this.
