According to reports in today, DS and PSP emulators for the new iPhone 3GS are already up and running on hacked models of the handset, the emulators spied running games including Final Fantasy VII and Pokemon.

According to Techradar.com, homebrew game makers have leapt upon the new clout of the 3GS iPhone, and already have games from rival PSP and DS systems working.

The emulator uses the BIOS from the original machines, which makes this move just about legal - although none of the firms involved (Apple included) would approve. What we do see from this initiative is the extra power of the phone.

These emulators aren't likely to make it to the App Store anytime soon, although we do he talk of an officially licensed C64 emulator making it's way to the iPhone once certain terms of service problems can be overcome. The march of the iPhone continues apace, it would seem.
