Wii HD could be released in 2010

Will scupper Sony's PS3 plans

Wedbush Morgan have been making some dramatic new predictions this morning, the firm noting that a Wii HD release by the end of 2010 could put an end to Sony's hopes of a PS3 fightback.

According to the report, Money for Nothing: How Ancillary Revenues Can Extend The Console Cycle, the analysts expect a revised Wii console to arrive within the next 18 months or so, incorporating MotionPlus into its controller, alongside specifications similar to the Xbox 360.

"We would expect such a console to be fully backward compatible with the current Wii, but would expect the new console to have additional features and functionality," reads the report, predicting a name similar to 'Wii Plus'.

The appearance of an HD Wii could serious hurt Sony's efforts with the PS3, we're told: "In our view, if Nintendo can offer such a device by year-end 2010, it will be in a position to seriously damage Sony's chances of a comeback this cycle. We would expect publishers to support such a move, given that the cost of porting an Xbox 360 game to the new Wii Plus HD format would likely be lower than the cost of building a ground up Wii game (we estimate under 5 million USD)."

game concoles and Video formats merged, portable games and mobile phones soon to be merged? Sony you need to hire a business consultant. First thing he will say to you is to minimize operations and focus on them. You released products that hit directly at the biggest three companies. You put your selves in the line of fire from Microsoft, Apple and Nintendo, in the same time! Do you even know how many skeletons are burried in their backyard? I still wish you luck though.

Its the most logical move. Nintendo is moving in for the checkmate. First they take themselves out of direct competition with Microsoft and Sony and let them duke it out and weaken each other. Simultaneously Nintendo taps into previously ignored and garners themselves a MASSIVE share of the market.

Now they simply jump the SIMPLE hurdle of upping their graphical capabilities and they'll lock out Sony and Microsoft for the rest of the generation.

I have a Playstation 3 and Wii hooked up to a 42" flat screen. I will say I couldn't stand playing the Wii on the 1080p screen and had to spend a huge load of money to get a Sony ES receiver to upscale the image to make it look halfway decent.

Knowing this may come out I guess I will replace my old Wii for the new, hopefully the image looks a lot better this time.

Another thing that would be nice would be to make it BLACK so it matches the decor of all the other black components in my system.

I forgot to mention that there is nothing that Nintendo could do to let go of my PS3. Wii is good for somethings like decoration and babysitting tool. PS3 is better for other things such as gameplay.
