Scottish developer Ruffian have revealed a little more information on what players can expected from the eagerly awaited Crackdown 2, letting slip that the new action title is set 10 years after Real Time Worlds' original.

Lead designer Steve Iannetta tells Joystiq that Crackdown 2 is actually based on a mission players may have experienced in the first game.

The Shi-Gen are now known as 'The Freaks', we're told, Iannetta continuing: "The Shi-Gen - once you killed the boss - you unleashed the freaks into the world. Basically it's a continuation of that.

"It's ten years later and because of your actions you've turned the city into, basically, a living hell. Nighttime is just 'freak' time. You can't go out at night. Daytime civilians are scurrying about trying to get themselves the necessities of life and when it comes to dusk you'll see them scuttling home."

This Xbox 360 exclusive is due out next year.
