Insomniac play down frame-rate importance
Graphics are important, though
Speaking this week, Insomniac's Mike Acton has said that games aren't all about graphics, the Ratchet and Clank developer stating that frame-rates in particular can be misleading.
The game maker says that while Insomniac have strived to make the adventure run at 60 frames-per-second this feature makes very little difference to players or review scores. He says, therefore, that they simply might not bother in the future.
"I'm really proud of what our art and production teams accomplished in this game. It's a great looking game, a ton of fun to play and is 60fps," Acton tells his blog.
"Our community team did some research into the question of framerate. And in particular they found that there was a clear correlation between graphics scores in reviews (where they are provided) and the final scores. And they found no such correlation between framerate and the graphics scores nor the final scores.
"However it does appear that gameplay scores are also influenced by graphics scores. i.e. Better looking games appear to be more 'fun' to reviewers, in general."
Acton hints that A Crack in Time could be the last title from the developer to run at 60 frames-per-second.
