Microsoft bans game pirates from Live

Microsoft knows what you did

The small number of Xbox 360 gamers out there using modded consoles are feeling the wrath of Microsoft.

A Spokesman for the company told IGN: "We have taken action against a small percentage of consoles that have been modified to play pirated game discs. In line with our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox LIVE community, we are suspending these modded consoles from Xbox LIVE."

Those targeted gamers woke up only to find that their accounts have been totally revoked from Xbox LIVE. The Spokesperson from Microsoft went on to discuss the fact that these actions would not only result in banning of accounts, due to Xbox LIVE terms of use violations, but that it also violates the users warranty.

So for those of you playing pirated games, let this be a lesson that crime doesnt pay and, more importantly, that Big Brother Microsoft is not aloof to your wrongdoings.

you say [all of the small percentage of modded consoles are banned] however, it is actually [a small percentage of all modded consoles.]

The thing is, your facts arent clear. of the people i ever engage in 360-related with, be it for a second or for hours, easily 20% of them have modded consoles. while that may be biased, you have to consider what a "small" percentage is. fractional would be small. but guess what, big bro? more than one of every hundred of your precious creations is tampered with in such a way that voids the warranty. I personally own 5 of them because people give up on their red rings and put these things up on craigslist because they dont have a warranty seal or thermal paste.

I own 3 flashed consoles, and dont restrict my LIVE play. and here I am, never banned. WHY? because, the small percentage of people with flashed consoles that got banned are downloading leaks and playing them on live before the release, or they dont patch their backups right and set up as easy bait for the ban hammer. and all I can say for those people is ABGX360. and dont steal games. I personally use flashed drives just for my backups. the cost of a verbatim is actually less than a resurfacing fee at GS when you trade them in. but heres the crazy part: despite my bashing of big brother, i respect the system and throw the disks in the microwave for about four seconds (no more than that though) and make some neat-looking coasters out of my backups when I trade my originals in. long live the ban hammer!
