Your site files are there—they’re just not being found. Here’s why and how to fix it.

What’s Happening

When you had a domain forward or 301 redirect active, the domain was pointing away from your Jolt hosting service. When you disabled it, the domain should have started pointing to your actual website files. But sometimes the DNS hasn’t updated yet, so the domain is still pointed at the old forwarding service instead of your server.

Result: You see a bare directory listing instead of your website.

Quick Check

Is the domain actually pointing to your hosting server? That’s the real question.

Even if you removed the forward in your control panel, the DNS records might still be pointing elsewhere. DNS changes take time to propagate globally.

Fix It

1. Check your DNS records

Log into your hosting control panel and check the domain’s DNS settings. Make sure the primary records (A record, or CNAME) point to your hosting server, not the forwarding service.

2. Update DNS if needed

If the DNS is still pointing to the old forwarding service, update it to point to your hosting server instead. Your control panel will show you the correct values to use.

3. Wait for DNS to propagate

DNS changes can take anywhere from a few minutes to 48 hours to spread globally. During this time, some visitors might still see the old behavior.

You can check propagation status using a free online DNS checker tool.

4. Test the domain

Once propagation is complete, visit your domain again. Your website should load normally from your hosting server.

Still Seeing a Directory Listing?

If the domain is correctly pointed to your hosting server and propagation is complete, but you’re still seeing the folder listing:

Check your document root — Make sure your website files are in the correct folder (usually
public_html
)

Check for an index file — Your site needs an
index.html
or
index.php
file in the root

Contact support — Give us the domain name and we can investigate why the website isn’t loading

DNS is the usual suspect. When a domain suddenly shows a directory listing after removing a forward, it’s almost always because DNS is still pointing to the old service. Give propagation time and it should resolve itself.

You removed a domain forward and now instead of your website, you see a folder listing (“Index of /”).
