Setting a Staging site to Live in Jolt Control Panel

So you’ve built yourself a new site on a temporary/subdomain and you now want to set it live on another domain, perhaps one you’ve registered recently specially for this site.

There’s a couple of different ways to do this in JCP, this guide will show you how to do both.

💡Note: Each method has their pros and cons, for example cloning the site creates a new copy of the site leaving the original staging site untouched, which can be useful if you’d still want to use the staging site as a template for another site or if you want to compare the new/live site to the staging site to make sure everything is working as expected.

On the other hand simply swapping the domain can be a quicker/more straightforward method, plus it doesn’t create a second site that takes up additional space on your server freeing you up to create other sites/projects.

Either method is viable and is entirely up to you to choose which is better suited for your needs.

Method 1 (Swapping the domain):

Login to your Jolt account

1. Login to your Customer Portal account.
2. Click on Jolt Control Panel in the top row.

Open the Site settings

1. In JCP, you’ll see a list of your Sites.
2. Find the site you want to manage.
3. Click the Settings cog icon beside that site.

Add the new domain

1. Navigate to Domains & Redirects.
2. Navigate to the Domain management section and click Add domain.

Switching the domain

1. Click Change primary domain.
2. Select the new domain from the drop down, then click Save changes.

JCP will now automatically change the domain on the site for you, including changing the domain in the database.

Method 2 (Cloning the site):

Login to your freethought.group account

1. Login to your account Customer Portal
2. Click on Jolt Control Panel in the top row.

Open the Site settings

1. In JCP, you’ll see a list of your Sites.
2. Find the site you want to manage.
3. Click the Settings cog icon beside that site.

Cloning the site

💡Note: The cloning tool in JCP will clone the site you’re currently managing to whatever site you select in the drop down. For example, if you want to clone the site on Domain A to Domain B, you’ll want to go to the settings in JCP for Domain A and select Domain B as the destination in Tools > Clone site.

1. Navigate to the Tools drop down in the top right.
2. Select Clone site from the Tools drop down.
3. Select the new site you wish to clone to from the drop down, then click Clone.

JCP will now create a clone of the site for you as well as change domain in the database.

That’s it, you’ve now set your staging site live in your Jolt Control Panel.
