Moving your website from one JCP Server to another

With Jolt Control Panel, you can have multiple Servers in the panel for different sites. Thus, you may want to migrate a site between Scout servers e.g making a copy of your site to your other server as a backup. This guide walks you through the full process, including prerequisites, access setup, and the import workflow.

Prerequisites

Before beginning the migration, ensure you have:

  • Access to the Jolt Control Panel for both the source and destination accounts
  • Access to your domain DNS (required for DNS updates after migration)
  • Note the destination and source server names

Setting Up Access on the Source Scout Account

While logged into the JCP account that currently hosts the sites, complete the following steps to allow the destination server to import the site.

PART A:

  • Navigate to Sites and click the Settings button for the site you want to migrate to, then select import
  • Select migration type as JCP to first get the SSH public key and copy the key. Then click cancel to go back.

PART B:

  1. Navigate to Sites and click the Settings button for the site you want to migrate.
  2. Open the Files tab.
  3. Scroll down to Key management.
  4. Paste the public key provided by the destination Scout server into the Public key field.
  5. Click Authorize key.
  6. Make a note of the IP address and Username shown in the Overview section — you will need these when initiating the import.

Importing the Site on the Destination Scout Server

Once access is configured on the source server, switch to the destination Site account again where you want the site to be imported.

  1. Navigate to Sites and choose Import Site.
  2. Select Scout as the import method.
  3. Click ‘I’ve added the key’ Button
  4. Enter the following details from the source server:
    • Server IP address
    • Username
  5. Tick the I am happy to proceed with the import
  6. Confirm the import and allow the migration tool to complete the process.
