Site Isolation and CloudLinux / CageFS

Overview

Our shared and reseller hosting servers use CloudLinux with CageFS to isolate hosting accounts from one another. This improves both security and stability for all customers on the server.

What Is CloudLinux?

CloudLinux is a specialised operating system for shared hosting. It enforces per-account resource limits (CPU, memory, I/O) so that one account cannot consume all server resources and impact others.

What Is CageFS?

CageFS creates a private, virtualised file system environment for each hosting account. This means:

  • Each account can only see and access its own files
  • Users with shell access cannot browse other accounts on the server
  • If one account is compromised, the impact is contained and cannot spread to other accounts

How Does This Affect You?

For most customers CageFS operates transparently and you won’t notice it during normal use. Things to be aware of:

  • PHP applications, cron jobs and shell sessions all run within your isolated environment
  • Most standard applications (WordPress, Joomla, etc.) work without issue
  • Occasionally, applications that rely on unusual system paths or binaries may need adjustment

When to Contact Support

If you see application errors referencing missing files or system libraries that you haven’t intentionally removed, this may be related to the CageFS environment. Contact support with the full error message and we’ll investigate.
