Rebooting a Server on JCP
Sometimes your server needs a fresh start. Whether it’s running slow or has stuck processes, this guide will walk you through rebooting safely in JCP.
Step 1: Access Your Server Settings
Log into www.jolt.co.uk/kb and open your Scout control panel. From the left menu, select “Servers”.

Step 2: Verify You Have the Right Server
Before making any changes, double-check you’re looking at the correct server. Verify the Hostname or IP address shown at the top of the page matches your intended target.
Step 3: Open Settings
Click the “Settings” link beneath your server details.

Step 4: Find the Danger Zone
From the top menu, select the “Other” tab. You’ve now entered what we call the “Danger Zone”—these tools are powerful and can affect all sites hosted on your server, so use them carefully.

Try the Quick Fix First
Before rebooting the entire server, try “Restart services” first. This restarts just the web server and database software, which often fixes stuck processes or performance issues without downtime.
To restart services:
- Click “Restart services”
- Wait 2 minutes for changes to take effect
- Check if your issue is resolved
Most problems stop here. If you still have issues, move on to a full server reboot.

Ready for a Full Reboot?
If restarting services didn’t help, it’s time for a full server reboot.
To reboot your server:
- Click the “Reboot” button
- Review the confirmation screen carefully—it shows the exact server and all affected sites
- Confirm by clicking “Reboot” again
The reboot process will begin immediately.

What to Expect
Your server will be offline during the reboot. Allow up to 10 minutes for it to restart and come back online. Many servers return much faster than that—you’ll know it’s ready when your sites are accessible again.
