Migrate a Site from cPanel to JCP 

JCP‘s built-in migration tool makes transferring your website from cPanel hosting simple and straightforward.

Prerequisites

  • SSH access enabled on your cPanel account (contact your current host if not available)
  • Access to both cPanel and Jolt Control Panels

Step 1: Create New Site in JCP

  1. Log in to JCP at Jolt
  2. Click “Add a site” (top right)
  3. Fill out the form to create your hosting area
  4. Click “Got it, let’s go!” after setup

Step 2: Start the Import Process

  1. From the Site Overview page, click “Tools” (top right)
  2. Select “Import a site”
  3. Choose “cPanel” as the import source
  4. Click “Copy Key” to copy the SSH public key.

Step 3: Add SSH Key to cPanel

  1. Log in to your cPanel account (old hosting)
  2. Go to Security“SSH Access”
  3. Click “Manage SSH Keys”
  4. Click “Import Key”

Step 4: Configure the SSH Key

  1. Key Name: Enter a label (e.g., “scout”)
  2. Leave the next two boxes empty
  3. Public Key box: Right-click → Paste the key you copied from JCP
  4. Click “Import”

Step 5: Authorize the Key

  1. Click “Go Back” to return to Manage SSH Keys
  2. Find your newly added key
  3. Click “Manage”“Authorize”

SSH Key is now authorized

Step 6: Gather cPanel Information

  1. Click the cPanel logo (top left) to return to the home screen
  2. Note the following from the right sidebar:
    • Current User (username)
    • Shared IP Address

Step 7: Complete Migration Form in JCP

Return to Scout and fill in the migration details:

Step 8: Configure Migration Options

Maintenance Mode:

ON: Displays maintenance page to visitors during transfer

OFF (default): Site stays online during migration

💡 Recommendation: Enable maintenance mode for eCommerce sites or frequently updated websites to prevent data loss.

Acknowledgment:

✓ Check the box to confirm you understand this will overwrite any existing data in JCP

Step 9: Start Migration

  1. Click “Start Migration”
  2. Wait for the transfer to complete (time varies based on site size)
  3. You’ll see a success screen when finished.

Step 10: Verify Your Site

  1. Click “Manage Site”
  2. Use the Preview button (eye icon, top right) to test your migrated website
  3. Verify everything transferred correctly

Migration Details

What Gets Transferred:

  • ✓ All website files
  • ✓ Databases
  • ✓ Configuration

Transfer Time:

  • Small sites: A few minutes
  • Larger sites: Can take longer depending on size and connection speed
