Reset Permissions on Files and Folders in JCP
File permission issues can cause surprising problems – broken uploads, missing images, or strange errors. The good news? JCP makes fixing this incredibly simple. One click and you’re done.
When You Might Need This
Permission issues often show up when:
- File uploads aren’t working
- Images or assets aren’t displaying
- You’re getting access denied errors
- You’re troubleshooting general site issues
Resetting permissions is a safe first step that often solves these problems without needing to dig deeper.
Step 1: Open Site Settings
Log into www.jolt.co.uk/kb and open your Jolt Control Panel.
Click the Settings icon next to the site you’re working on.

Step 2: Go to Debugging
Navigate to the “Debugging” section in the site settings.
Step 3: Reset Permissions
Click the “Reset permissions” option.
That’s it. Seriously.

What Happens Next
You’ll see a confirmation banner appear—the reset job is now running in the background. The time it takes depends on your site’s size and number of files. Larger sites take a bit longer.
Once it’s done, you’ll get a pop-up notification in the lower right corner.

Optional: Switch to Debugging Mode
If you’re actively troubleshooting, consider switching your site from “Live” to “Debugging” mode before testing again. This disables server-side caching and gives you a clearer, more up-to-date view of how your site actually behaves.

Still Having Issues?
If resetting permissions didn’t solve it, the Debugging section has other tools worth exploring. They’re all one-click solutions like this one.
