Cloning a Website Using Softaculous
Softaculous provides a Clone feature that allows you to duplicate an existing website installation. This is especially useful for:
- Creating a staging environment to test updates or new features.
- Moving a site from one folder or domain to another.
- Safely experimenting without affecting your live site.
Cloning ensures the original site remains intact while you work on the duplicate.
Steps to clone your website
1. Log in to cPanel
- Navigate to your hosting account’s cPanel login page.
- Enter your credentials and access the dashboard.
2. Open Softaculous
- Locate the SoftaculousApps Installer icon under the “Software” section.
- Click to open the Softaculous interface.

3. Find Your Installation
- In Softaculous, go to Installations.
- Locate the website you want to clone (e.g., WordPress, Joomla, Drupal).

4. Select the Clone Option
- Next to your installation, click the Clone icon.
- A new page will open with cloning options.

5. Configure Clone Settings
- Choose Destination: Select the domain, subdomain, or directory where the cloned site will reside.
- Database Settings: Softaculous will automatically create a new database for the cloned site.
- Leave other settings as default unless you need specific changes.
6. Execute the Clone
- Scroll down and Click Clone Installation.
- Softaculous will duplicate your site, including files and database, to the new location.
7. Verify the Clone
Log in to the cloned site’s admin panel to ensure functionality.
Visit the new domain or directory to confirm the cloned site is working.
